Responsibilities
- Implement key components of a public-cloud platform, primarily on AWS.
- Develop and maintain secure, high-quality production code and infrastructure automation using Python and Terraform.
- Review and debug code written by other engineers for correctness, performance, and maintainability.
- Propose pragmatic architectures, technical tradeoffs, and standards aligned with software development, security, and controls expectations.
- Partner with operations, SRE, security, risk, and controls stakeholders to deliver compliant, observable, and audit-ready solutions.
- Drive automation, CI/CD improvements, pipeline reliability, quality gates, testing strategy, and repeatable environment provisioning.
- Lead safe and effective adoption of approved AI-assisted engineering tools, including validation of correctness, security, compliance, and licensing considerations.
- Coach engineers on responsible AI use, including avoiding sensitive data in prompts and completing reviews and approvals before merge and release.
Requirements
- Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts and 4+ years of applied experience.
- Hands-on experience developing and designing software on AWS and GCP, including AWS database services and supporting infrastructure.
- Strong practical proficiency in Python and Terraform for production-grade automation and infrastructure as code.
- Advanced knowledge of AWS and GCP services across compute, containerized workloads, and serverless architectures, including integration with database services and platform guardrails.
- Experience leading effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools for coding, code review, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Understanding of responsible AI use, data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs and outputs, resiliency, security, and compliant engineering practices.
- Working experience with Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence, IntelliJ IDEA, and Visual Studio Code.
- Practical SQL and/or NoSQL experience applied to managed AWS database services, including data modeling, performance, availability, backup and restore, and operational troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with GitHub Copilot and Microsoft Copilot, including prompting and disciplined verification of generated outputs.
- Experience influencing adjacent platform, SRE/operations, security, risk, or controls teams through technical proposals and collaborative execution is preferred.
- Amazon RDS experience, including RDS SQL Server or PostgreSQL, is preferred.
- Experience building reusable Terraform modules and standardized infrastructure patterns with guardrails and policy-aligned defaults is preferred.
- Experience operating AWS database platforms at scale, including monitoring, alerting, performance and capacity management, backup and restore validation, and failover planning, is preferred.
- An AWS certification and Terraform Certified Associate certification are preferred.
- Experience using Copilot in team workflows and understanding LLM limitations, hallucinations, security risks, and licensing or intellectual-property considerations is preferred.
