Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end architecture for services, data flows, integrations, failure modes, and frontends across Beckett’s portfolio.
- Design scalable service boundaries, contracts, data ownership models, migration paths, and systems that support autonomous development.
- Lead high-stakes modernization work, including strangler-pattern migrations, Java-to-TypeScript replacements, and low-risk production cutovers.
- Build cross-system understanding across grading, marketplace, CRM, payments, identity, and data/ETL systems to identify risks early.
- Set standards for security, testing, observability, documentation, incident response, and operational excellence.
- Lead projects of moderate-to-significant scope across one-to-two-quarter delivery horizons and coordinate engineers, stakeholders, and dependencies.
- Use value-versus-cost prioritization, communicate blockers early, and drive predictable delivery.
- Establish standards and guardrails for AI coding tools, agents, code review, testing, security, intellectual-property hygiene, and impact measurement.
- Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through design reviews, pairing, and feedback.
- Promote knowledge sharing, documentation, AI fluency, and effective engineering workflows across the organization.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including technical leadership of multi-engineer, multi-quarter projects.
- Expert-level backend engineering in TypeScript/Node.js and/or Java, with effectiveness across TypeScript, Java 21, PHP, Python, and C# systems.
- Hands-on production experience across modern React/Next.js frontends, API and service layers, relational data stores, and infrastructure.
- Experience modernizing legacy systems through strangler-fig migrations, monolith service extraction, or platform re-architecture under live traffic.
- Deep PostgreSQL and MySQL expertise covering data modeling, migrations, performance, and shared-database coupling.
- Strong distributed-systems fundamentals including service boundaries, REST, GraphQL, gRPC, SQS, idempotency, and failure handling.
- Production AWS experience with ECS, Lambda, networking, and IAM, plus infrastructure-as-code experience with AWS CDK and/or Terraform.
- A record of improving testing strategy, observability, documentation, and incident response.
- Hands-on daily experience with AI coding assistants and agentic tools such as Claude Code, Copilot, and Cursor, including workflow integration and verification judgment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication with technical and business audiences.
- Preferred experience with frontend architecture at scale, design systems, micro-frontends, performance budgets, React Native/Expo, e-commerce, marketplaces, payments, consumer platforms, Snowflake, ETL pipelines, dimensional modeling, computer vision, LLM APIs, retrieval-augmented generation, evaluations, or agent frameworks such as MCP.
- Interest in sports cards, gaming, or collectibles is preferred.
Benefits
- The posting does not specify benefits, compensation, or a regular work arrangement.
