Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure, highly available AWS infrastructure across multi-account, multi-region, and multi-Availability Zone environments.
- Lead Terraform infrastructure-as-code practices by creating reusable modules, managing workspaces, and enforcing standards.
- Administer and evolve Amazon EKS clusters, including provisioning, networking, upgrades, node groups, IAM integration, and day-two operations.
- Author and troubleshoot Helm charts, including umbrella charts and integrations with open-source/community charts.
- Develop custom Kubernetes controllers and operators using controller-runtime or Kubebuilder.
- Define and champion multi-cloud architecture patterns and portability practices.
- Deploy and operate Istio in production using Sidecar and Ambient mesh modes, including traffic management, mTLS, and observability integration.
- Design and operate AWS networking, certificates, DNS, routing, and related cloud services.
- Collaborate with development, security, and architecture teams and communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to documentation, knowledge sharing, peer review, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Hands-on production experience writing Terraform configurations, reusable modules, workspaces, and providers for AWS environments.
- Experience provisioning and managing Amazon EKS, VPC networking, secondary networking, cluster upgrades, IAM integration, node groups, workload management, RBAC, storage, autoscaling, and observability.
- Experience writing custom Kubernetes controllers and operators with controller-runtime or Kubebuilder.
- Experience with AWS Load Balancer Controller, Kubernetes Gateway API, HTTPRoute, GatewayClass, and migration from Ingress.
- Experience authoring complex Helm and umbrella charts and troubleshooting releases, hooks, and rendering problems.
- Production experience deploying and operating Istio, including Sidecar and Ambient modes, VirtualService, DestinationRule, Gateway, AuthorizationPolicy, mTLS, and observability integration.
- Deep working knowledge of AWS services and architectures, including EKS, VPC, EC2, S3, API Gateway, ACM, PCA, Route 53, NAT, Internet Gateway, PrivateLink, VPN, and Direct Connect.
- Strong understanding of TLS, certificate chains, mTLS, termination strategies, and PKI fundamentals.
- Understanding of multi-cloud infrastructure architecture and portability considerations.
- Strong analytical, debugging, problem-solving, communication, documentation, and stakeholder collaboration skills.
- Experience with GitOps, observability stacks, CI/CD pipelines, or additional service-mesh technologies is preferred, including ArgoCD, GitHub Actions, CloudBees Jenkins, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Jenkins, Atlantis, and Linkerd.
