Responsibilities
- Own the architecture and implementation of Highlight’s native desktop runtime across macOS and Windows
- Improve performance, stability, and resource efficiency across native processes
- Implement telemetry, diagnostics, and monitoring to detect regressions and accelerate debugging
- Collaborate with backend engineering, ML engineering, and product teams on end-to-end desktop and backend features
- Establish best practices for native development, testing, releases, and cross-platform compatibility
- Solve systems problems involving ASR reliability, native event capture performance, OCR/accessibility latency, and on-device inference
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with significant experience shipping native desktop software
- Experience building and debugging native systems on macOS and/or Windows
- Strong systems fundamentals and a focus on performance and reliability
- Track record of improving latency, CPU and memory usage, and production stability
- Ability to own systems end-to-end, including architecture, implementation, instrumentation, and safe cross-platform shipping
- Ability to measure the impact of implemented systems and iterate using user feedback
- Excellent communication, collaboration, ownership, and execution skills
- Must be based in or willing to relocate to San Francisco
