Responsibilities
- Own solution architecture for high-performance data pipelines and microservices, including resilience, scalability, latency, observability, and security.
- Define and drive modernization roadmaps involving re-platforming, refactoring, and microservices decomposition.
- Establish engineering standards for API design, event-driven integration, data modeling, testing strategy, CI/CD, and operational readiness.
- Manage technical debt through clear prioritization and measurable outcomes.
- Architect, design, and build core services using Java, Spring Boot, JPA, PostgreSQL or another relational database, and event-streaming patterns.
- Lead real-time processing implementations using Apache Flink or Apache Beam where appropriate.
- Partner with engineers on code reviews, pair debugging, performance tuning, and production incident resolution.
- Build automation for engineering efficiency using scripting, tooling, testing, and Python where needed.
- Drive engineering delivery on GCP using Dataflow, Pub/Sub, GCS, Composer/Airflow, BigQuery or ClickHouse, and GKE.
- Own operational excellence for production workloads through monitoring, alerting, capacity planning, reliability improvements, and cost optimization.
Requirements
- 15+ years of software engineering experience, including significant experience designing and delivering distributed systems and data-intensive applications.
- Strong recent, hands-on Java experience with Spring Boot, REST and event-driven services, JPA/Hibernate, and SQL performance tuning.
- Proven system design expertise covering microservices patterns, asynchronous messaging, idempotency, consistency models, caching, rate limiting, and failure handling.
- Solid experience delivering cloud-native solutions, preferably on GCP or an equivalent cloud platform with the ability to translate that experience.
- Ability to communicate clearly and align architecture decisions with business priorities and operational constraints.
- Experience with Kubernetes and deployment tooling, including GKE, Helm, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with observability tools including Prometheus, Grafana, Stackdriver/Cloud Monitoring, and distributed tracing.
- Knowledge of cloud and Kubernetes security practices, including secrets management, IAM, network segmentation, and secure SDLC.
- Front-end exposure to React and TypeScript is helpful but not essential.
