Responsibilities
- Manage and improve a fleet of clusters running hundreds of instances across customer deployment regions
- Write Golang daily and use Terraform to provision infrastructure
- Use Nomad to schedule and manage workloads
- Rethink infrastructure primitives involving virtual filesystems, Linux primitives, and low-level virtualization
- Own the reliability and performance of the compute platform, including on-call coverage
- Collaborate across teams to drive convergence of Vercel’s compute systems
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, with Golang strongly preferred
- Deep experience with virtual machines, filesystems, and Linux, including familiarity with tcpdump, strace, and iptables
- Experience building and operating distributed systems at scale with a focus on performance and reliability
- Experience with schedulers and orchestrators for containerized and non-containerized workloads, such as Nomad or Kubernetes
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- Experience with low-level virtualization or sandbox execution environments is a bonus
- Product engineering experience and attention to developer-facing infrastructure impact are bonuses
- Experience with on-call operations for large-scale distributed systems is a bonus
