Responsibilities
- Own the technical direction and architectural evolution of Wise’s FX engineering stack and 14+ production services.
- Architect a semi-automated hedge execution platform spanning exposure decomposition, model-driven hedge proposals, and programmatic external trade execution.
- Build Apache Flink streaming pipelines for exposure computation, tenor interpolation, and hedge lifecycle event processing.
- Evolve rate infrastructure for increased throughput across FX Forwards, new corridors, NDFs, and cross-provider deviation alerting.
- Build production infrastructure for quantitative models supporting VaR, beta-adjusted exposure management, dynamic pricing, and FRP cancellations.
- Own Kafka topology design and schema evolution across rate ingestion, risk calculation, trade execution, and analytics.
- Drive technical roadmaps across two teams, mentor IC2/IC3 engineers, and lead incident response for tier-1 critical services.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally in financial systems, trading, or real-time data infrastructure.
- Deep Java 17+ and Spring Boot experience in high-throughput production environments.
- Extensive Apache Kafka experience, including topic design, schema evolution, and consumer group management at scale.
- Strong data engineering experience building real-time streaming pipelines with Apache Flink, Kafka Streams, or equivalent.
- Experience designing and operating distributed systems processing millions of events per day.
- Experience owning reliability through SLOs, alerting, incident response, and disaster recovery.
- Experience leading technical design for complex multi-service architectures and influencing without direct authority.
- Ability to translate requirements from traders, operations, and quantitative researchers into technical strategy.
- Experience mentoring senior and junior engineers and improving team-wide engineering standards.
