Responsibilities
- Develop machine learning and large language models for open-domain question answering, retrieval, ranking, document synthesis, and summarization.
- Research and develop LLMs for summarizing emails, messages, notifications, and other personal data.
- Develop, fine-tune, and evaluate domain-specific LLMs for NLP tasks and RAG applications.
- Model user behavior through personalization, online learning, and recommendation systems.
- Conduct applied research and transfer generative AI advances into production-ready technologies.
- Collaborate with researchers, data scientists, and cross-functional teams to build AI-powered Apple products.
Requirements
- Experience modeling user behavior, including personalization, online learning, and recommendation systems.
- Experience with machine learning or LLM development for NLP tasks and RAG applications, including prompt engineering, training data collection and generation, model fine-tuning, and model evaluation.
- Experience with Python and at least one deep learning framework such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or JAX.
- At least two years of experience with advanced LLM fine-tuning techniques, including supervised fine-tuning, preference-based fine-tuning, parameter-efficient fine-tuning, hallucination reduction, factual accuracy improvements, or safety guardrails.
- A consistent track record of researching, inventing, or shipping advanced machine learning models.
- Preferred PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with cross-functional teams.
