Base Salary

$137k - $206k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate SQL Server on Windows across VMware and AWS EC2.
  • Enhance the database product portfolio on AWS, focusing on SQL Server products deployed on EC2.
  • Automate infrastructure deployments and configurations using PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform, and WinRM.
  • Manage Windows servers and database infrastructure in collaboration with database product specialists.
  • Support availability groups, failover clusters, backup and recovery, security configuration, license management, reporting, integration, monitoring, auditing, and performance troubleshooting.
  • Apply fault-tolerant, observable, separation-of-duties, and operator-friendly engineering practices.
  • Use AI tools to analyze logs, metrics, incidents, configuration drift, troubleshooting issues, remediation, development, and documentation while retaining ownership of technical decisions.

Requirements

  • 7-12 years of experience with SQL Server administration, development, or architecture.
  • At least 3 years of experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, preferably AWS.
  • At least 6 years of highly technical experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Availability Groups, and Failover Clusters.
  • At least 5 years of PowerShell development and automation experience, including PowerShell remoting through WinRM.
  • At least 2 years of experience using Ansible to configure Windows systems through WinRM; Chef or Puppet experience is also considered.
  • At least 2 years of experience with Terraform.
  • Familiarity with T-SQL, .NET, PowerShell, Python, or Go.
  • Experience with Linux and database technologies such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, and NoSQL is desirable.
  • AWS certifications are highly recommended.
  • Strong backup and recovery, security configuration, license management, reporting, integration, monitoring, auditing, and performance troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; Agile development experience is a plus.

  • Hybrid work schedule requiring three office days per week, Tuesday through Thursday, in Columbus, Ohio; Chicago, Illinois; Hartford, Connecticut; or Charlotte, North Carolina.
