Base Salary
$180k - $200k/yr
Responsibilities
- Build self-healing, fault-tolerant infrastructure and internal tooling to automate operational work and reduce toil.
- Analyze and improve observability coverage across telemetry, logging, and alerting systems.
- Own scalability initiatives for the HashiCorp Nomad service fabric, including capacity planning, load testing, and bottleneck identification.
- Extend Prometheus, Honeycomb, and OpenTelemetry instrumentation to expose critical failure modes.
- Define SLOs, error budgets, and multi-window burn-rate alerting for critical brokerage workflows.
- Mentor engineers and help establish a site reliability culture across teams.
- Support Ruby, Java, and Elixir services and contribute to production on-call and incident-management practices.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience designing and shipping fault-tolerant, self-healing distributed systems.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, Linux systems, cloud-native architectures, or containerization.
- Experience identifying gaps in observability and telemetry systems and improving instrumentation and alerting.
- Track record of scaling systems under production load through capacity planning and architectural analysis.
- Hands-on experience with OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and Grafana, including direct service instrumentation.
- Strong Linux internals and networking knowledge, including TCP/IP, UDP/multicast, packet capture, and flow analysis.
- Production on-call experience and comfort establishing blameless post-incident review processes.
- Working knowledge of SLOs and error budgets; HashiCorp Nomad, Consul, or Vault experience is a plus.
- Strong programming skills in Python, Ruby, Java, or a similar language.
