Responsibilities
- Complete cross-training with Advanced Train Control technical and operational teams and build cross-functional relationships.
- Write and maintain Bash and Python scripts to automate operational tasks and improve system reliability.
- Develop applications using .NET, Python, Java, C#, and cloud-based tools.
- Develop working knowledge of PTC, ETC, radio, networking, and field systems.
- Design, develop, test, and maintain applications supporting real-time monitoring and management of field assets.
- Contribute to the single-pane-of-glass systems management platform.
- Support integration of locomotives, wayside systems, detectors, and other current and emerging assets.
- Use automation, analytics, and Generative AI to improve system performance and decision-making.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and support mission-critical systems affecting train movement, including participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
- Translate operational needs into technical solutions aligned with railway safety and performance priorities.
- Identify opportunities to improve tools, workflows, and system reliability while contributing to ITIL processes and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of software development and/or technical systems support experience.
- Working knowledge of one or more programming languages, including Python, Java, C#, .NET, C, or C++.
- Interest in Linux and Windows systems, networking and messaging protocols, monitoring and data platforms, and automation tools and scripting.
- Exposure to or interest in applying AI, ML, or Generative AI to real-world problems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and interest in complex, integrated systems.
- Ability to learn quickly in a cross-functional, operationally focused environment.
- Successful completion of background investigation, criminal history check, education verification, and professional reference checks.
- Employees may be required to obtain or maintain conductor or locomotive engineer certification or qualification.
