Staff Software Engineer, Console - Unpublished R&D Product
Riot GamesResponsibilities
- Lead console development for an unpublished R&D game across multiple platforms
- Work with QA, engineers, designers, and artists to address console technical, creative, and artistic requirements
- Investigate and solve complex console-specific technical problems
- Profile and optimize console performance and memory usage
- Integrate first-party features for each console platform
- Drive implementation of technical certification requirements on each platform
- Plan and execute console engineering work, including requirements gathering, technical discovery, work breakdown, and estimation
- Maintain and improve engineering excellence practices including code quality, monitoring, reviews, and documentation
- Mentor new engineers and provide feedback supporting their technical growth
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including delivering live or shipped products at scale
- 3+ years of console-specific game development experience
- Experience shipping one or more console platform titles
- Experience with console performance profiling and optimization
- Experience implementing TCRs/TRCs for one or more console platforms
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and solve complex problems with minimal support
- Experience collaborating across multiple disciplines
- Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences
- B.S. in computer science or equivalent experience
- Experience building multiplayer games is desired
- Experience implementing or porting UI on console platforms is desired
- Experience implementing gamepad experiences for console games is desired
- Experience with input handling, including Common UI and Enhanced Input, is desired
- Experience in graphics/rendering is desired
- Personal relationship with and empathy for games and players is valued
