Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for complex, high-impact initiatives spanning multiple components, services, and teams.
- Define and evolve architecture for scalable, reliable, secure, and maintainable systems while making pragmatic technical tradeoffs.
- Lead architecture, design, prototyping, implementation, code reviews, debugging, production readiness, and ongoing operation.
- Improve developer workflows for application creation, API access, documentation, usage visibility, and platform self-service.
- Lead resolution of complex production issues and address root causes to improve long-term system health.
- Establish reusable architectural patterns, guidance, and engineering standards across teams.
- Use production signals, customer feedback, and engineering data to improve systems and development practices.
- Apply AI-assisted development tools across the software lifecycle while validating correctness, security, maintainability, and accountability.
- Mentor developers, share technical knowledge, and influence decisions across organizational boundaries without direct authority.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience, including leadership of technically complex initiatives.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience designing, building, and operating production systems.
- Experience with architecture and system design for complex web applications, API platforms, distributed systems, or comparable production environments.
- Hands-on programming experience with modern backend and/or frontend technologies, plus cloud services, APIs, data stores, security, and production observability.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools and evaluating and validating AI-generated outputs.
- Experience delivering initiatives across multiple systems or teams and influencing technical decisions without direct authority.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to mentor developers.
- Preferred experience with cloud-based web applications, developer platforms, APIs at scale, Python/Django, JavaScript/TypeScript/React, AWS, relational databases, asynchronous processing, containers, and observability tooling.
- Preferred experience with API architecture, security, reliability, scalability, performance, external integrations, AI-assisted engineering practices, automation, and globally distributed teams.
Benefits
- Canada-remote work arrangement.
- Starting base salary of $131,000 to $191,400 for Canada-based roles, with offers based on experience and geographic location.
- Compensation package may include annual cash bonuses, stock grants, and comprehensive benefits.
- The role may require in-person onboarding and/or in-person identity verification.
