Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain NAND flash interface firmware for ONFI 4.x/5.x and JEDEC Toggle mode, including timing calibration and multi-die/multi-plane operation.
  • Lead the introduction of new flash vendors and generations from preliminary datasheet analysis through production qualification, including FPGA-based prototyping.
  • Characterize flash-device behavior across threshold-voltage distributions, read/program/erase disturbances, retention, cell-to-cell interference, program/erase cycles, and temperature ranges.
  • Develop and optimize flash-layer calibration and read-retry strategies and provide raw BER and soft-information data to the ECC subsystem.
  • Document vendor-specific device behavior and errata for the broader engineering team.
  • Debug flash-level issues using logic analyzers and protocol capture and support JESD47/218 reliability qualification and DVT/PVT validation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Strong experience developing embedded C firmware at the hardware-interface level.
  • Strong knowledge of NAND flash architecture and cell physics, including floating-gate and charge-trap technologies.
  • Experience with ONFI or Toggle-mode protocols at the register and timing level.
  • Hands-on experience commissioning or characterizing at least one real flash technology generation, such as SLC, pSLC, MLC, TLC, or QLC.
  • Understanding of NAND reliability mechanisms, including disturbances, retention, threshold-voltage shifts, and cell-to-cell interference.
  • Python scripting experience for test automation and characterization-data analysis.
  • Experience with Micron, Samsung, Kioxia, SK Hynix, or WDC flash devices is an advantage.
  • Good English communication skills; German is advantageous.
  • Collaborative working style and openness to teamwork.

Benefits

  • Flexible working hours and room for personal planning.
  • Opportunities for professional development.
  • Well-equipped engineering infrastructure with state-of-the-art EDA tools.
  • Corporate benefits including Hansefit, Jobrad, and Pluxee.
  • The role is primarily associated with the new Dresden location, with proximity to the development and production site in Berlin.
