Responsibilities
- Develop, enhance, maintain, test, implement, and support mission-critical mainframe applications.
- Use COBOL, DB2, JCL, VSAM, MQ, and SQL for application development and support.
- Analyze business requirements and create technical designs, specifications, impact assessments, and feasibility analyses.
- Troubleshoot complex application issues, investigate production incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement sustainable remediation.
- Support batch processing, online transaction processing, application monitoring, disaster recovery, resiliency, and business continuity activities.
- Participate in application modernization, automation, performance optimization, technical debt reduction, and service reliability initiatives.
- Collaborate with business, technology, infrastructure, operations, architecture, quality engineering, vendor, and downstream teams.
- Conduct code reviews, support quality gates, and follow engineering, security, audit, operational, and software development lifecycle standards.
- Support system integration across enterprise platforms, payment systems, vendor solutions, APIs, and digital channels.
- Participate in Agile delivery activities including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.
- Mentor junior developers, share knowledge, and provide technical leadership across development, testing, implementation, and production support.
- Participate in on-call support rotations and critical incident resolution as required.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
- At least 8 years of software development experience.
- At least 5 years of mainframe development experience.
- Experience supporting large-scale banking, payment, or financial applications.
- Strong experience with COBOL, DB2, JCL, VSAM, SQL, MQ Series, file processing, and batch application development.
- IBM Mainframe development and support experience, including production support and incident management.
- Proven experience in application design, development, testing, implementation, and production support.
- Strong understanding of enterprise mainframe architecture, integration patterns, software engineering principles, design methodologies, and SDLC practices.
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
- Preferred experience with credit card or banking domains, card processing platforms, API and distributed system integrations, GitHub, DevOps and CI/CD tools, and mainframe modernization initiatives.
- Ability to independently perform complex development, troubleshooting, and implementation activities.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, prioritization, and collaboration skills.
