Senior Software Engineer – Workday Finance

Base Salary

$110k - $146k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain scalable software services supporting Workday Finance capabilities.
  • Own complex technical problems from requirements and architecture through implementation, production deployment, and ongoing support.
  • Design backend services, APIs, data models, and distributed systems for financial transactions, accounting, billing, revenue, reporting, and related workflows.
  • Build resilient, high-volume transaction-processing systems with appropriate handling of failures, retries, duplicates, reconciliation, performance, availability, and reliability.
  • Partner with Product Management, Architects, Engineers, QA, and Finance subject-matter experts to translate requirements into technical designs.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and improve system reliability, performance, observability, monitoring, and logging.
  • Develop automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
  • Participate in architecture and design reviews, code reviews, continuous improvement, and technical-debt reduction.
  • Contribute to CI/CD, DevOps, and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership within the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with ownership of complex systems.
  • Strong programming experience in one or more modern languages such as Java, Python, C++, Go, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles.
  • Experience designing distributed systems and scalable backend services.
  • Strong experience with service-oriented or microservice architectures and asynchronous or event-driven systems.
  • Strong SQL and relational database experience.
  • Experience with cloud technologies, automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring, logging, and production support.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical problems and develop practical, scalable solutions.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Preferred experience with ERP, Finance, accounting, billing, revenue, or financial management software.
  • Preferred understanding of General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, billing, revenue recognition, accounting periods, financial reporting, reconciliation, auditability, and data integrity.
  • Preferred experience with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Azure, GCP, high-volume transaction systems, distributed messaging, multi-tenant SaaS, and enterprise SaaS environments.
  • Preferred demonstrated technical leadership and mentoring experience.
