Responsibilities
- Own major integrations and subsystems from partner evaluation through production rollout and ongoing operation.
- Build and maintain third-party data integrations and abstract vendors behind versioned internal contracts.
- Design, evolve, and operate public APIs and SDKs with attention to versioning, compatibility, authentication, rate limiting, and developer experience.
- Translate ambiguous partner specifications and customer requirements into technical designs and tradeoffs.
- Develop backend and frontend production code using Node.js, TypeScript, Nest.js, and React.js.
- Design and optimize PostgreSQL schemas, queries, indexing, performance, and data integrity.
- Build event-driven workflows with Kafka and Redis for enrichment, retries, dead-lettering, and backpressure.
- Deploy, monitor, debug, and operate containerized services in Kubernetes.
- Refactor legacy integration code into modular, testable, swappable adapters.
- Handle production incidents and improve system resilience and recurrence prevention.
- Lead code reviews, mentor engineers, and raise standards for integration patterns, testing, resilience, and API design.
- Communicate technical tradeoffs across engineering, product, partnerships, and customer-facing teams.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Demonstrated ownership of major production features or subsystems, ideally involving integrations or platform APIs.
- Deep expertise in the Node.js and TypeScript ecosystem.
- Strong system design skills involving retries, idempotency, circuit breakers, rate limiting, webhooks, and graceful degradation.
- Experience designing or operating a public API or SDK.
- Hands-on PostgreSQL experience including schema design and query optimization.
- Experience building or maintaining event-driven systems using Kafka.
- Experience operating containerized applications in Kubernetes.
- Ability to refactor complex or legacy integration code into modular, swappable, well-tested adapters.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and raising team quality standards.
- Ability to work effectively with ambiguous, incomplete, contradictory, or changing partner specifications.
- Bonus: experience with KYB, KYC/IDV, AML, fraud, banking, or identity data providers.
- Bonus: experience shipping public SDKs, AWS services including MSK, RDS, EKS, S3, and Lambda, Terraform, Redis caching, Redshift schema design and ETL pipelines, Python backend systems, or fintech, payments, lending, and regulated data environments.
