Responsibilities
- Lead the architectural evolution of Elasticsearch core storage engine components
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in indexing layouts, serialization formats, and resource utilization
- Improve storage efficiency, ES|QL query processing and performance, and data layouts for object storage
- Lead cross-organizational initiatives for observability solutions
- Drive operational and system improvements and improve architectural clarity across the platform
- Serve as a subject matter expert and mentor to the wider engineering organization
- Triage, resolve, and review issues and pull requests with global engineering contributors
- Write idiomatic modern Java
Requirements
- Experience implementing efficient indexing, storage, and querying techniques for time-series or logs data
- Experience with one or more storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Prometheus
- Strong core Java skills and deep understanding of Java concurrency primitives
- Ability to design and optimize efficient data structures and algorithms
- Experience building high-performance, scalable database, search, or distributed systems
- Ability to work autonomously and drive decisions in a globally distributed, asynchronous team
- Experience using AI to accelerate development, debug systems, and optimize code while validating results
- Prompt-engineering mindset and ability to use AI agents with sound engineering judgment
- Strong collaboration, verbal communication, and written communication skills
- Preferred experience with Elasticsearch, open-source projects, source-control workflows, continuous integration, data-storage technology, database or search-engine development, operating-system development, or cloud-service development
- Preferred experience designing, leading, and owning cross-functional initiatives
