Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and optimize Java services for real-time payments, authorization, clearing, and settlement workflows.
- Apply JVM concurrency, garbage collection, lock-free data structures, asynchronous I/O, benchmarking, profiling, and latency regression analysis to meet performance budgets.
- Build and operate container-native applications on Kubernetes across AKS, OpenShift, EKS, and GKE, including manifests, packaging, resource controls, health probes, and rolling deployments.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, GitOps workflows, observability, on-call rotations, runbooks, deployment guides, and architecture decision records.
- Develop comprehensive unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end tests and integrate Testkube-orchestrated suites into quality gates.
- Implement secure-by-design code and compliance controls for PCI-DSS, SOC2, audit logging, secrets management, and threat remediation.
- Use AI tools across coding, testing, documentation, defect analysis, and performance diagnostics while validating generated output and protecting sensitive data.
- Read and interpret COBOL programs and translate their business logic into behaviorally equivalent Java services.
- Provide L3 production support, diagnose complex failures using telemetry and thread or heap dumps, and deliver root-cause analyses and preventive fixes.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including substantial production work on high-volume, low-latency systems.
- Expert-level Java proficiency, including JVM internals, concurrency, performance tuning, Spring Boot, the Spring ecosystem, and modern Java 17+ features.
- Demonstrated experience with transaction processing, payments, or equivalent high-throughput distributed systems.
- Experience designing microservices and APIs with versioning, backward compatibility, event-driven services, and contract testing.
- Hands-on experience containerizing Java applications and running them on Kubernetes, including AKS, EKS, GKE, or OpenShift.
- Azure experience is required as the primary cloud platform; AWS or Google Cloud Infrastructure familiarity is a strong plus.
- Experience with Jenkins, Gradle, container image builds, automated quality gates, and pipeline definitions.
- Strong unit, integration, and end-to-end testing practices with JUnit 5, Mockito, Testcontainers, or equivalent tools.
- Knowledge of secure coding, OWASP Top 10, input validation, secrets management, and regulated engineering environments.
- Experience with structured logging, metrics using Micrometer or Prometheus, and distributed tracing using OpenTelemetry or an equivalent.
- Production experience with PostgreSQL or an equivalent relational database, including schema migration, query optimization, and connection pooling.
- Active use of AI coding tools such as Copilot, Claude, or Cursor with disciplined validation practices.
- Preferred qualifications include banking or payments experience, ISO 8583 or ISO 20022 knowledge, Drools or comparable BRMS experience, NATS or equivalent messaging, multi-cloud deployment, COBOL literacy, Carvel tooling, regulated-environment experience, AI/ML feature delivery, and technical mentorship.
