Responsibilities
- Design and implement authentication and authorization services, including the token endpoint, JWT validation middleware, and dataset, field, and channel entitlement enforcement.
- Build and maintain a Redis/Memorystore entitlement decision cache with invalidation on entitlement changes and a sub-10ms authorization overhead target.
- Standardize API error handling and configure Apigee for authentication pass-through, tier-based rate limiting, and rate-limit header propagation.
- Develop catalog APIs with entitled metadata exposure, full-text and faceted search, and resilient descriptor caching.
- Implement data-access endpoints, shared cursor pagination, and query filtering for large result sets.
- Build synchronous and asynchronous read paths for recent queries, bulk exports, and deep-history jobs, including submission, status, and delivery workflows.
- Implement non-blocking usage-event emission, the usage summary endpoint, and an MCP tool-definition generator synchronized with the OpenAPI contract.
- Contribute to API discovery and design, including authentication, entitlement, pagination, query, MCP tool-definition, and usage-event schemas.
Requirements
- Google Cloud Platform experience is mandatory, including hands-on service deployment and familiarity with Cloud Run, IAM, Cloud Logging, Cloud Monitoring, and GCP networking such as PSC/VPC.
- Strong core Java 17+ and modern JVM development experience.
- Experience with Quarkus or Spring Boot, with willingness to work in Quarkus.
- Experience designing and implementing REST APIs and using OpenAPI contract-first development.
- Demonstrated automated testing discipline, including unit, contract, and integration testing.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and containerized deployment.
- Ability and willingness to work in an AI-agent-first development model using agentic development platforms and AI coding assistants for implementation, design, and specification work.
