Responsibilities
- Own the technical direction of an AI-assisted product area from discovery through production operation.
- Build full-stack solutions including Python services and APIs, data flows, user-facing interfaces and infrastructure.
- Design robust LLM and agent-based workflows with prompts, evaluations, feedback loops, observability and safeguards.
- Translate editorial research and user feedback into technical options, trade-offs, experiments and implementation plans.
- Create architectures and reusable platform capabilities that support rapid learning and durable products across content workflows.
- Set and apply pragmatic standards for reliability, security, maintainability, quality and cost.
- Investigate failures across components, manage dependencies and keep production systems effective as usage grows.
- Raise engineering quality through design discussions, code reviews, pairing and informal mentoring.
- Communicate technical trade-offs with technical, editorial and publishing stakeholders.
- Travel to Groningen for one or two days approximately every two months.
Requirements
- Track record of independently building, shipping and operating production software.
- Strong Python skills and the ability to make effective decisions across backend, frontend and infrastructure concerns.
- Practical experience with LLM-powered products, model APIs, agent workflows or closely related AI systems.
- Experience framing ambiguous problems, identifying risky assumptions and turning them into focused experiments.
- Ability to balance immediate product learning with reliability, maintainability and future reuse.
- End-to-end ownership of software outcomes across the full lifecycle.
- Ability to communicate complex choices clearly to non-technical colleagues and incorporate domain expertise.
- Ability to guide engineers through collaboration, review and mentoring without formal management responsibility.
- Pragmatic and constructive approach under pressure or amid competing stakeholder views.
- Affinity for education and interest in improving how learning materials are made.
- Experience with React or TypeScript, cloud infrastructure, containers, LLM evaluation, data analysis or applied machine learning is valuable.
- Experience in education, publishing or content systems is welcome but not required.
