Responsibilities
- Lead booking projects end-to-end, including discovery, solution design, development, rollout, monitoring, and incident response.
- Build and improve checkout, order management, tax management, and traveler self-service experiences.
- Develop systems for reservations, changes, transfers, cancellations, refunds, pricing, tax calculation, availability, and inventory.
- Own the reliability and scalability of booking and order management systems, including supporting 10x growth.
- Partner with Product and Customer teams to understand organizer and traveler needs and improve conversion.
- Contribute to engineering practices, technical excellence, team culture, and mentoring, including AI concepts and tools.
Requirements
- 7+ years of product engineering experience, including 4+ years architecting complex e-commerce, booking, or order management systems.
- Experience working on high-scale consumer checkout, marketplace, travel, or e-commerce platforms.
- Deep production expertise in checkout and order flows, pricing and tax calculation, availability and inventory, cancellations, modifications, refunds, order state machines, and operational tooling.
- Strong backend experience with Ruby on Rails, Kotlin, Python, Go, Java, or Node.js, with the ability to ramp up quickly on Ruby.
- Full-stack experience building React interfaces for booking flows.
- Expertise designing resilient distributed systems with state machines, idempotency, exactly-once semantics, event-driven architectures, webhooks, and reliable consumer patterns.
- Production on-call experience, including writing post-mortems and leading incident response.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, containerization, and modern CI/CD practices, including AWS or GCP and Kubernetes.
- Experience handling pricing and tax logic directly in the application layer.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience collaborating cross-functionally in distributed, multicultural environments.
- Pragmatic use of AI tools to improve engineering workflows, with the ability to mentor and train others on AI concepts.
- Preferred experience launching or significantly redesigning checkout or booking flows, building multi-jurisdiction tax capabilities, or working with marketplace and two-sided commerce systems.
- Bonus experience with tax engines, VAT, GST, sales tax, or travel-industry reservation systems.
