Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs for mid-mile transport and warehouse operations.
- Own technical initiatives from problem framing and system design through delivery, monitoring, and iteration.
- Lead architecture and trade-off decisions with a 6–12 month horizon while balancing scalability, reliability, maintainability, and technical debt.
- Help evolve the Ruby on Rails modular monolith through clearer module boundaries and well-defined APIs.
- Collaborate with Product, Operations, Decision Science, and neighboring engineering teams on discovery, sequencing, implementation, contracts, and dependencies.
- Conduct code reviews, pair on difficult problems, document complex changes, onboard team members, mentor engineers, and participate in hiring.
- Own service reliability, alerts, metrics, SLOs, incident follow-up, and on-call participation.
- Use AI tools thoughtfully to improve development workflows.
Requirements
- 5+ years of backend engineering experience building systems and owning work from design through production.
- Solid Ruby experience or the ability and motivation to learn Vinted’s backend stack quickly.
- Understanding of API design, database-backed systems, observability, and operating production services.
- Ability to work independently, solve complex technical problems, and provide guidance to teammates.
- Pragmatic approach to balancing delivery speed, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
- Ability to work through ambiguity and break complex operational or product problems into technical steps.
- Interest in knowledge sharing, mentoring, feedback, and improving engineering standards.
- Collaborative communication skills for working with engineering, product, operations, and non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Experience with logistics, warehouse management, fulfillment, operational workflows, physical-device integration, or modularizing a large monolith is advantageous.
