Responsibilities
- Architect and evolve scalable platform services, libraries, microservices, and tools for efficient and secure data use.
- Own data transformation and orchestration tooling, batch and streaming infrastructure, and data lake ingestion, storage, governance, and privacy capabilities.
- Champion data as a product through platform observability, governance, data quality, lineage, contracts, and self-service practices.
- Lead large technical initiatives by setting vision and roadmaps, gathering requirements, defining scope, and establishing success metrics.
- Automate infrastructure and monitoring, lead incident response and root-cause analysis, and improve platform health and performance.
- Build trusted relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders across engineering, analytics, product, marketing, and leadership.
- Mentor colleagues, share knowledge through documentation and training, and contribute to Depop’s engineering culture.
Requirements
- Advanced knowledge of a high-level programming language such as Python or Scala and strong software engineering practices, including testing, clean coding, code reviews, pair programming, and automation.
- Proven hands-on experience designing, building, and scaling complex data systems and backend infrastructure in production cloud environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Ability to define long-term technical strategies while executing pragmatically and rapidly.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder-influencing skills across technical and non-technical teams.
- Expertise managing and integrating data orchestration and processing platforms such as Databricks, Airflow, dbt, and Kafka or similar tools.
- Experience with agentic coding tools such as Claude Code or Cursor.
- Preferred: experience building CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins or GitHub Actions and infrastructure as code with Terraform.
- Preferred: experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Spark, data lake formats such as Delta Lake, Parquet, Iceberg, or Hudi, and Databricks lakehouse or medallion architectures.
- Preferred: knowledge of Kafka, Flink, Confluent, or other streaming ecosystems.
- Preferred: experience with data governance, observability, and catalog solutions such as Monte Carlo, Atlan, or DataHub.
