Base Salary
$100k - $200k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain robust backend systems for the core AI recruiting platform.
- Develop and scale REST APIs using Python and FastAPI.
- Build production systems with PostgreSQL, Redis, OpenSearch, Celery, and Temporal.
- Architect systems supporting large-scale datasets and high-throughput backend workflows.
- Deploy and maintain backend services on AWS.
- Own containerized deployments, deployment pipelines, backend infrastructure reliability, observability, and performance practices.
- Support integrations, data pipelines, workflow automation, asynchronous processing, and AI-enabled product features.
- Lead major technical efforts, define backend architecture and engineering standards, and make scalable architecture decisions.
- Collaborate with AI engineers, frontend developers, product leads, and company leadership.
- Mentor engineers and raise engineering quality, speed, and execution standards.
Requirements
- Strong backend engineering experience with Python and deep hands-on FastAPI experience.
- Strong production experience with PostgreSQL and Redis, plus experience with OpenSearch, Celery, and Temporal.
- Proven experience building robust REST APIs and systems handling large-scale datasets.
- Experience deploying and managing backend systems on AWS, including services, containers, and deployment pipelines.
- Experience building and maintaining production systems for B2B and/or B2C SaaS.
- Experience supporting integrations, data pipelines, workflow automation, event-driven systems, or resilient distributed workflows.
- Prior experience operating as a Staff Engineer, Lead Engineer, Founding Engineer, or Architect.
- Experience in startup-style environments with high ownership, mentoring responsibility, and direct collaboration with product or leadership.
- Strong systems thinking, backend architecture judgment, and ability to take ideas through production.
- Willingness and ability to relocate to Northern Virginia or the Washington, DC region.
- Preferred experience includes AI-enabled products, search-heavy or data-intensive systems, multi-tenant SaaS, recruiting or HR technology, developer productivity tools such as Cursor or Claude Code, and scaling early-stage engineering teams.
