Responsibilities

  • Write, refactor, maintain, and test scientific software for observational data processing, model execution, and experimental workflows.
  • Support containerization of scientific applications using Docker or Singularity.
  • Design, configure, and execute testbed experiments integrating model outputs and observational inputs into forecast workflows.
  • Analyze and quality-control space weather model and observational datasets for experiments and product validation.
  • Contribute to graphical user interfaces and visualization tools for forecast tools and data products.
  • Collaborate with scientists, system engineers, and operational staff to align software and workflows with SWPC requirements.
  • Document software, experiments, and evaluation results and contribute to stakeholder briefings and technical discussions.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, atmospheric science, space physics, geophysics, or a similar field from an accredited institution.
  • At least 8 years of web development experience.
  • Proficiency in Python, Fortran, or C/C++ and experience in Linux-based environments.
  • Familiarity with Git, NetCDF, HDF5, and scripting for workflow automation.
  • Ability to analyze complex datasets, perform diagnostics, and communicate results effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Preferred experience with Docker or Singularity, high-performance computing systems, atmospheric or heliophysical modeling, operational forecast environments, research-to-operations processes, and collaborative scientific software development or testbed environments.
  • A master's or Ph.D. in a related discipline is preferred but not required when experience is commensurate.
