Responsibilities
- Define, lead, and contribute to the evolution of Elasticsearch’s core search and indexing capabilities.
- Research advances in search infrastructure, data structures, and retrieval algorithms.
- Shape the long-term technical vision and roadmap for Elasticsearch search systems with partners and product teams.
- Improve Elasticsearch indexing, query execution, and relevance layers using experience with large-scale search systems.
- Serve as a technical authority and go-to expert for multiple Elasticsearch domains.
- Mentor expert engineers and provide technical and professional guidance.
- Collaborate across globally distributed teams using written and synchronous communication.
Requirements
- Experience leading technical projects involving search infrastructure and distributed systems.
- Experience building and operating sophisticated search platforms and robust, high-performance software systems.
- Experience mentoring expert engineers and providing technical and professional guidance.
- Experience defining long-term technical vision for a core search or retrieval system and shaping cross-team technical roadmaps.
- Hands-on experience with Elasticsearch, Lucene, Solr, or comparable search and indexing technologies.
- Strong core Java skills, familiarity with advanced data structures, concurrency constructs, and newer language features such as lambdas.
- Experience with large-scale data or search systems, including understanding their underlying design and operation.
- Ability to work autonomously and guide projects from concept through completion, including technical design and collaboration.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaboration across distributed teams.
- Experience in search and information retrieval, including relevant constructs and theory, is a bonus.
- Experience with open source projects and source-control workflow or continuous integration is a bonus.
