Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain applications using Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, Kafka, and React.
- Develop ledger-as-a-service capabilities, financial aggregation pipelines, and third-party integrations.
- Build scalable backend services and well-documented APIs with long-term maintainability in mind.
- Own technical roadmaps and deliverables for significant initiatives of eight or more engineering weeks.
- Maintain the availability, reliability, security, and performance of developed systems.
- Provide product input, manage technical debt, and collaborate across engineering, product, design, and other teams.
- Write clean, efficient, and documented code; participate in code reviews, planning cycles, and team ceremonies.
- Mentor engineers, lead onboarding for new team members, and promote Wise engineering practices.
Requirements
- Expert-level backend engineering knowledge and strong full-stack capabilities.
- Experience designing and building scalable, maintainable systems and distributed systems or microservices.
- Ability to own large-scale technical projects, roadmaps, APIs, and long-term system reliability.
- Strong understanding of system design, design patterns, frontend and backend integration, and technical debt management.
- Proven ability to coach and develop engineers and collaborate effectively across functions.
- Excellent communication, ownership, product-thinking, and cross-team collaboration skills.
