Base Salary
$130k - $200k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain critical user-facing products and backend systems.
- Evolve the core backend architecture with a focus on scalability and performance.
- Collaborate with product, operations, and leadership to align technical solutions with business needs.
- Drive software engineering best practices through code reviews, testing, and documentation.
- Contribute to engineering culture and hiring efforts, with potential mentoring or leadership responsibilities over time.
Requirements
- At least five years of web development experience.
- Strong backend development skills, with full-stack experience preferred.
- Proven ability to build scalable, performant solutions under aggressive deadlines.
- Experience with Ruby or similar backend languages, or willingness to learn Ruby quickly.
- Comfort working across the stack with React, Next.js, and TypeScript strongly preferred.
- Experience using AI coding agents autonomously, including daily Claude Code use.
- Experience integrating third-party APIs, including OAuth flows, webhooks, rate limits, and idempotency.
- Experience owning services in production and handling observability, on-call rotations, and real incidents.
- Experience with AWS, Terraform, and infrastructure is a plus.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams and explain technical concepts clearly.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, early-stage environment.
- Empathy for low-to-moderate-income renters and motivation to build impactful products.
