Responsibilities
- Shape the technical direction, architecture, standards and engineering best practices for Masabi’s payments platform.
- Design and deliver scalable, secure, resilient and cost-effective payment solutions.
- Guide teams evolving toward modern distributed and microservices-based architecture while balancing delivery and long-term platform health.
- Contribute hands-on where needed through architecture reviews, design discussions and targeted technical delivery.
- Resolve complex challenges involving scalability, resilience, operational performance and system evolution.
- Act as a senior technical advisor across engineering teams and influence payment-domain decisions.
- Collaborate with external providers and payment partners on integrations, technical alignment and problem-solving.
- Contribute to technical roadmaps, prioritisation, scoping, documentation, technical forums and engineering standards.
Requirements
- Strong experience with payment systems, including PSPs, gateways, EMV, contactless EMV and acquirers.
- Good understanding of payment flows, transaction lifecycles and system design considerations.
- Experience designing and evolving distributed systems and microservices architectures.
- Experience operating at Principal or Staff level and shaping technical direction across multiple teams or domains.
- Strong technical judgement, communication skills and ability to balance short-term delivery with long-term architectural outcomes.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity, explain complex problems clearly and engage technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, and modern infrastructure practices.
- Experience making scalability, reliability, performance and cost trade-offs and contributing to architecture patterns or platform direction.
- Interest in or exposure to AI-enabled systems and their production architecture implications.
- Preferred experience includes transit or fare-payment systems, tap-to-ride systems, Visa, Mastercard, Interac and complex multi-service or event-driven architectures.
- Familiarity with Kotlin, Java, DynamoDB, MySQL, Terraform and GitLab CI/CD.
