Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, maintain, and own firmware modules for PCIe/NVMe storage controllers throughout the product lifecycle.
- Develop low-level drivers, hardware abstraction layers, and performance-critical firmware subsystems.
- Optimize device-level latency, throughput, and energy efficiency for PCIe/NVMe target systems.
- Troubleshoot complex cross-layer firmware, driver, and hardware problems using logic analyzers, JTAG, and protocol analyzers.
- Collaborate with hardware engineers, validation teams, and systems engineering teams.
- Ensure compliance with NVMe, PCIe, and related storage standards.
- Contribute to architecture reviews, design discussions, technical documentation, code reviews, static analysis, and process improvements.
- Support hardware bring-up for new platforms, EVT/DVT prototypes, and reference designs.
Requirements
- University degree in electrical engineering, technical computer science, computer science, or a closely related field.
- Strong practical experience developing embedded firmware in C.
- Strong knowledge of PCIe architecture, the NVMe protocol, and storage-device internals including flash management, wear leveling, and ECC.
- Practical experience with bare-metal firmware, RTOS environments, and debugging embedded systems.
- Familiarity with ARM or RISC-V processor architectures.
- Experience with DMA engines, interrupt controllers, memory-mapped I/O, and hardware-register interfaces.
- Proficiency with firmware development toolchains and tools including GCC/LLVM compilers, JTAG debuggers, Git, and static-analysis tools.
- Strong analytical and debugging skills for complex multi-layer hardware/software problems.
- Good English communication skills; German is advantageous.
- Preferred: experience with NAND flash, FTL design, LDPC/BCH ECC, security firmware, HSM integration, secure boot, UFS, SATA, SD/eMMC, and industrial, automotive, or defense-related embedded environments.
- Preferred: familiarity with IEC 61508 or DO-178C and contributions to open-source firmware or embedded projects.
