Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and test state-of-the-art C/C++ robotics software for autonomous vehicle behavior and control.
- Lead and participate in design reviews, code reviews, and code-quality activities.
- Provide technical guidance to technical support teams on issue diagnosis and resolution.
- Coordinate cross-functional development of software and system requirements for autonomous vehicle behavior and controls subsystems.
- Collaborate with data science teams to define subsystem performance metrics and key performance indicators.
- Develop unit and simulation tests and execute on-vehicle tests to validate performance in target operational domains and real-world scenarios.
- Diagnose and root-cause issues reported by commercial operations through the field response process.
- Develop tools and visualizations for analyzing behavior and control subsystem performance from field data.
- Provide technical direction, project leadership, and mentorship across autonomy development and testing.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in robotics, computer science, computer engineering, or a mathematically or engineering-focused field, or comparable knowledge or experience.
- At least 7 years of industry experience working on real-world robot systems, including at least two commercial systems-level projects delivering critical fielded functions.
- Experience developing and deploying robot behavior planning, decision-making under uncertainty, path planning, probabilistic reasoning, prediction, machine learning, trajectory generation, controls, and/or localization capabilities.
- Familiarity with nonlinear control methodologies such as MPC, LQR, PID, optimal control, stochastic control, adaptive control, and robust control.
- Strong programming skills in C/C++.
- Expertise developing software in a Linux environment.
- Familiarity with git, valgrind, and gdb.
- Ability to understand complex codebases, define enabling architecture, lead complex technical projects, and mentor engineers.
- Preferred qualifications include a master’s or PhD, strong delivery experience in robotics controls or motion planning, familiarity with QP, control-theoretic splines, and dynamics-aware optimization approaches, and experience mentoring junior engineers.
