Responsibilities
- Design and develop core distributed database system functionality.
- Create architectures and designs that solve complex scalability problems.
- Generate improvements to system robustness and performance.
- Implement functional and system tests for assigned areas and overall database quality.
- Debug issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and diagnose defects.
- Participate actively in release and deployment processes.
- Own work end to end across architecture, design, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and customer support.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
- Master’s or PhD in databases or distributed systems is preferred.
- 6+ years of experience in systems or database-internals programming.
- 6+ years of experience designing, building, and supporting large-scale systems.
- Deep expertise in distributed computing, including system architecture, communication, distributed consensus, and transactional protocols.
- Strong understanding of low-level operating-system concepts, multithreading, memory management, networking, storage, performance, and scale.
- Strong Java or C programming skills.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills and the ability to deliver high-quality code in a fast-paced team environment.

- The listed base salary range is $172,500–$260,100 annually, with a $207,800–$285,800 annual range in select San Francisco and New York City metropolitan area locations.
