Responsibilities
- Own the architecture for resource quota management, node-level capacity estimation, performance optimization, and dynamic cluster rebalancing.
- Build software that models CPU, memory, IOPS, and data-streaming requirements per node.
- Develop automated multi-tenant platform capabilities that redistribute data and workloads to optimize total node count and hardware utilization.
- Design auto-balancing systems, scheduling frameworks, and multi-dimensional resource allocation algorithms for distributed systems.
- Implement admission control, rate limiting, and workload scheduling mechanisms for high-throughput environments.
- Partner with platform, SRE, and product teams to improve reliability, efficiency, and resource isolation across Apple’s global fleet.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
- At least 7 years of experience in infrastructure engineering, systems programming, or distributed systems development.
- Professional experience developing distributed systems involving consensus protocols, replication strategies, or consistency models.
- Experience profiling and modeling node-level CPU, memory, and I/O resource usage.
- Experience with auto-balancing systems, scheduling frameworks, or multi-dimensional resource allocation algorithms for large-scale distributed systems is preferred.
- Experience with distributed database internals, LSM-tree architectures, and streaming during node join, leave, and move operations is preferred.
- Experience running large-scale stateful workloads on Kubernetes or other modern orchestration platforms is preferred.
- Experience with admission control, token-bucket or leaky-bucket algorithms, distributed rate limiting, and fairness is preferred.
- Familiarity with Linux cgroups v1/v2, eBPF, I/O schedulers, and network topologies is preferred.
- Willingness to ramp up on the JVM and Java stack.
- Experience transitioning large single-tenant legacy systems to modern shared-resource, auto-scaling architectures is preferred.
