Responsibilities
- Prepare technical design specifications and written knowledge-transfer materials.
- Review functional requirements, analysis, and design documents.
- Implement, test, maintain, debug, and support software based on technical specifications.
- Lead architecture, design, and implementation of robust, scalable web services and distributed systems.
- Improve system quality by identifying issues and patterns and developing standard operating procedures.
- Enhance, maintain, and peer-review existing codebases.
- Collaborate with colleagues and cross-functional stakeholders to implement technical designs.
- Investigate and apply relevant new technologies.
- Assist customer support with technical problems and questions.
- Participate in architecture and code reviews and lead or contribute to additional projects.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and direction for complex engineering projects and greenfield SaaS products.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of experience developing systems or software for large business environments.
- At least 10 years of experience with Java Enterprise Edition.
- At least 8 years of experience developing mission-critical and low-latency solutions for large business environments.
- At least 5 years of experience developing and debugging distributed systems and working with cloud-based big-data systems.
- Strong object-oriented design and service-oriented architecture principles, preferably implemented with Java.
- Strong experience leading architecture, design, and implementation of robust and highly scalable web services.
- Experience with AWS and/or Azure SaaS infrastructure, CI/CD and DevOps technologies, and extensive debugging.
- Understanding of unit testing, test-driven development, functional testing, and performance testing.
- Experience building front-end applications with React is preferred.
- Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL database systems and data architecture.
- Experience integrating with event buses such as Pulsar is preferred.
- Experience with cloud-based big-data solutions such as Snowflake is preferred.
- Experience with software security-enhancing tools and best practices and at least one shell scripting language.
- Understanding of big-data and machine-learning technologies.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; a master’s degree is a plus.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, presentation, facilitation, decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently, mentor developers, operate across strategic and technical levels, and balance short- and long-term product goals.
