Base Salary
$184k - $247k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation, and delivery of software for highly complex, ambiguous, and strategically important problem spaces.
- Set backend architectural direction and personally write significant critical-path code.
- Decompose large architectures into independently developed components and align multiple teams around coherent designs.
- Lead projects spanning multiple teams and collaborate with business users, product managers, designers, and Principal Engineers.
- Drive engineering excellence through robust, scalable, cost-effective, simple designs, code review, design patterns, automated testing, and operational excellence.
- Lead design reviews, resolve escalations, mitigate complexity risks, and influence business and technology direction.
- Mentor engineers, educate the engineering community, participate in hiring and interviews, and perform promotion assessments.
- Champion AI-assisted development tools, models, and workflows to improve engineering productivity and quality.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience building large-scale, highly available distributed services.
- Expert-level programming skills in Java or a similar object-oriented language and strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and databases.
- Proven experience designing backend architectures spanning multiple teams and driving consensus.
- Experience building and operating message-based distributed systems, including caching strategies.
- Experience mentoring engineers and setting technical direction beyond a single team.
- Preferred: experience with highly scalable, real-time content or data platforms serving millions of consumers.
- Preferred: extensive experience with Amazon Web Services or a similar cloud service, Terraform, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Preferred: experience with event-driven messaging architectures such as SQS and SNS, plus relational and non-relational databases such as DynamoDB and OpenSearch.
- Preferred: contributions to patents, industry conferences, or the broader technical community.
