Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and evolve high-load, highly concurrent backend services for ecobee products and the Energy Control Platform.
  • Design and implement microservices using modern technologies and evaluate new tools when they improve outcomes.
  • Influence technical direction, systems architecture, engineering decisions, and the platform roadmap.
  • Work across the full software delivery lifecycle, including code review, merging, cloud or data-center deployment, and reliability improvements.
  • Use metrics, participate in a healthy on-call rotation, and build stable, redundant, resilient systems.
  • Address scale, concurrency, large data sets, security, redundancy, and failover for the IoT platform.
  • Share knowledge, mentor teammates, support team well-being, and improve engineering practices and processes.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools in development workflows and validate their output through testing, code review, and incremental rollout.

Requirements

  • Strong experience with Go and designing, implementing, and debugging microservices.
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform and/or AWS and both NoSQL and relational databases.
  • Confidence with systems design and architecture and the full lifecycle of getting code into production.
  • Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, sound design patterns, metrics, and reliability practices.
  • Ability to work effectively with large-scale, concurrent systems and considerations including security, redundancy, and failover.
  • Experience or willingness to work with Java, Python, and JavaScript as appropriate for the task.
  • Hands-on experience using AI development tools such as Claude, Copilot, or similar in real development workflows.
  • Ability to understand and validate AI-generated output through testing, code review, and incremental rollout.
  • Interest in turning AI usage into repeatable team leverage rather than only personal productivity.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and mentor, support, and guide teammates.
