Responsibilities
- Define multi-year technical strategy for Slack mobile experiences spanning multiple teams and the broader organization.
- Lead complex, ambiguous, cross-functional initiatives from technical exploration through production rollout and long-term evolution.
- Prototype features and shape Android user experiences in partnership with Product and Design leadership.
- Drive organization-wide improvements in performance, reliability, accessibility, developer productivity, observability, and operational excellence.
- Act as a top-level technical authority through architecture reviews, technical strategy, mentorship, and influence across teams.
- Drive the evolution of Slack’s mobile architecture and infrastructure, including support for future AI-powered experiences.
- Mentor and grow Staff and Senior engineers and cultivate technical leadership across Slack’s Android engineering community.
Requirements
- 15+ years of professional software engineering experience, including extensive experience building and scaling Android applications in production.
- Architect-level track record leading large, ambiguous, organization-spanning technical initiatives with measurable business impact.
- Deep experience designing systems and architectures that scale across many teams and long-lived codebases.
- Recognized expertise in Kotlin and modern Android development, including setting technical standards.
- Expert understanding of Android architecture, application lifecycle, concurrency, networking, and performance optimization at scale.
- Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction and align executive and senior stakeholders across multiple teams.
- Strong product intuition, excellent communication skills, ownership, execution, and prioritization abilities.
- Preferred: experience with Jetpack Compose and modern Android architecture patterns.
- Preferred: experience building shared platforms, design systems, or developer infrastructure used across multiple teams.
- Preferred: expertise in application performance, startup optimization, reliability, and observability at scale.
- Preferred: experience leading large-scale technical migrations or architectural transformations.
- Preferred: open-source or Android community contributions, external technical recognition, or experience with collaboration, productivity, messaging, AI, or enterprise software products.
