Responsibilities
- Architect and implement distributed data models using Azure Cosmos DB and MongoDB for large-scale applications.
- Define partitioning, indexing, data distribution, and schema strategies for scalability and performance.
- Perform query analysis, index optimization, RU and cost optimization, profiling, query tuning, and aggregation optimization.
- Build automation scripts for database deployment, monitoring, and scaling.
- Integrate database monitoring and alerting using Azure Monitor, MongoDB Ops Manager, or similar tools.
- Implement backup and restore processes, TTL policies, Change Feed or CDC pipelines, disaster recovery, replication, and geo-distribution strategies.
- Partner with development and DevOps teams on data access layers, API integrations, and infrastructure-as-code templates.
- Contribute to performance reviews, code walkthroughs, and system design discussions.
- Support data migrations and evaluate relational versus document database trade-offs.
Requirements
- 5–8 years of experience in database engineering, architecture, or backend data systems.
- At least 3 years of hands-on production experience managing Azure Cosmos DB and MongoDB.
- Deep knowledge of Cosmos DB partition keys, RU/s provisioning, indexing, consistency models, TTL, and multi-region replication.
- Deep knowledge of MongoDB replica sets, sharding, indexing, aggregation pipelines, schema optimization, and tuning.
- Experience designing for high concurrency, low latency, and multi-tenant SaaS systems.
- Experience with query profiling, performance benchmarking, monitoring dashboards, distributed systems, NoSQL principles, and data architecture.
- Strong SQL foundation and experience with or knowledge of SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or other RDBMS platforms.
- Familiarity with .NET, Java, Node.js, Angular, Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates, and scripting in Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
- Knowledge of event-driven architectures, microservices, API-based integrations, data security, encryption, GDPR, and HIPAA is desirable.
- Experience with data migrations, Azure infrastructure, CI/CD data pipelines, data lakes, analytical processing, or data warehousing is desirable.
- Preferred certifications include Microsoft Certified: Azure Cosmos DB Developer Associate and MongoDB Certified Developer/DBA.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science, MCA, or equivalent qualification.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, presentation, collaboration, and continuous-learning skills.
