Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate scalable backend services and APIs with strong reliability, performance, and security characteristics.
- Design data models, storage systems, integrations, and distributed systems that scale with usage.
- Write resilient, tested, observable production code and instrument services with logging, metrics, and tracing.
- Debug complex production issues, identify root causes, implement durable fixes, and participate in on-call and incident response.
- Make architectural and technical tradeoffs for ambiguous requirements and contribute to design and code reviews.
- Mentor engineers, raise engineering quality standards, and partner with cross-functional stakeholders on technical solutions.
- Use AI development tools and advanced prompt engineering to produce secure, optimized, and production-ready software.
- Maintain shared system context and critically evaluate human- and AI-generated code for correctness, quality, security, and performance.
Requirements
- 6+ years of professional software development experience with end-to-end ownership of production systems.
- Strong proficiency in at least one backend language, including Go, Java, Python, or Rust, plus distributed systems experience.
- Experience designing and operating RESTful or gRPC services, including database design and query optimization.
- Experience deploying and operating services in AWS, GCP, or Azure cloud environments.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, testing practices, and modern software delivery workflows.
- Ability to work independently on ambiguous problems and drive them to resolution, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Demonstrated AI-first engineering approach and experience using tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex, or Cursor.
- Advanced prompt engineering skills and ability to cultivate reliable system context for AI outputs.
- Preferred experience with Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code, observability tooling, regulated or multi-region environments, asynchronous processing, message queues, or event-driven architectures.
- Preferred domain knowledge of PKI, X.509 certificate profiles, mTLS, certificate lifecycle management, automated certificate provisioning, PQC standards such as ML-KEM, and crypto-agility design principles.

- Base salary ranges are $148,500-$223,900 annually generally and $178,900-$246,000 annually in select San Francisco and New York City metropolitan areas; bonus, equity, and other incentives may be available as applicable.
