Responsibilities
- Build and operate Shopify’s CDC and data materialization platforms for throughput, freshness, and reliability.
- Solve complex production issues at scale and participate in a required on-call rotation.
- Contribute to open-source and vendor codebases.
- Lead execution on impactful projects within the team’s charter.
- Collaborate with Shopify teams and external vendor development teams.
- Drive engineering excellence while balancing operational strength with feature delivery.
- Communicate through cross-team RFCs, leadership briefs, and stakeholder discussions.
- Use and shape AI-assisted approaches for design, coding, and collaboration.
Requirements
- Experience in or strong interest in streaming technologies such as Debezium and Kafka, processing technologies such as Flink, or databases such as Yugabyte, MySQL, and BigQuery.
- Strong coding patterns in any language, with Java or Go preferred.
- Experience operating large distributed systems at scale.
- Ability to act decisively and make progress through ambiguous technical problems.
- Experience leading projects, including scoping work, structuring execution, building momentum, and driving decisions.
- Willingness to complete a live pair-programming interview using the candidate’s own IDE.
