Base Salary

$185k - $335k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Own the multi-quarter technical vision and roadmap for vehicle dynamics and controls software.
  • Architect and implement system designs and interface contracts with perception, prediction, and planning systems.
  • Lead technical reviews and promote software engineering best practices across teams.
  • Contribute to Active Safety, Driver Assistance, and Super Cruise development.
  • Guide developers on system design and implementation focused on safety, comfort, and compute efficiency.
  • Define verification and validation strategies, including simulation and on-road testing gates.
  • Partner with Safety, Systems Engineering, and Product teams to generate onboard-system requirements.
  • Lead root-cause investigations, create feature test plans, and define performance metrics.
  • Mentor engineers across teams without direct people-management responsibilities.
  • Improve software reliability through continuous integration, automated testing, and code reviews.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or M.S. in controls, optimization, path planning, or a related field; a B.S. with strong relevant work experience may be considered.
  • At least 5 years of experience in motion planning or a related field.
  • Deep understanding of optimal controls and trajectory optimization algorithms.
  • Knowledge of classical and modern feedback control theory and techniques.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle dynamics and planning and controls system design.
  • Demonstrated experience building high-quality autonomous software systems.
  • Experience with C++ and Python in a large, distributed development environment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Passion for self-driving technology.
  • Bonus qualifications include robotics, ROS, or AV/ADAS experience; numerical optimization; safety-critical software applications; and engineering team management experience.
