Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, evaluation, and production deployment of AI/ML solutions for image classification, text categorization, OCR-based extraction, and document understanding.
- Develop and fine-tune computer vision, NLP, multimodal, CRNN, transformer, named entity recognition, and semantic understanding models.
- Integrate and optimize OCR and generative AI capabilities, including Amazon Bedrock foundation models, for scanned document processing.
- Architect AWS SageMaker training, hyperparameter tuning, distributed training, model registry, and real-time or batch inference pipelines.
- Integrate trained models into Java- and Python-based microservices deployed on AWS EKS and optimize low-latency, high-throughput GPU inference.
- Establish MLOps practices including model versioning, automated retraining, A/B testing, drift detection, monitoring dashboards, and annotation workflows.
- Design labeling strategies and manage high-quality ground-truth datasets for document AI tasks.
- Build and manage a team of ML engineers and applied scientists and foster experimentation and rigorous model evaluation.
- Present complex technical concepts and model performance to senior leadership and non-technical audiences.
Requirements
- Master's or PhD in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Operations Research, or Data Science.
- At least 6 years of experience in applied ML/AI roles, including at least 2 years leading teams or large-scale ML initiatives.
- Advanced Python proficiency and deep experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face Transformers, OpenCV, and Pillow.
- Proficiency in Java and/or Groovy for integrating ML capabilities into backend and enterprise applications.
- Familiarity with Oracle databases for feature extraction, training-data retrieval, and ML workflow integration.
- Deep expertise in computer vision and NLP, including hands-on CRNN implementation and multimodal document understanding.
- Experience with OCR, scanned-document preprocessing, TIF image handling, resolution normalization, deskewing, binarization, noise removal, and post-processing correction.
- Hands-on AWS SageMaker and Amazon Bedrock experience, including training jobs, processing pipelines, model registry, distributed training, inference endpoints, foundation models, prompt engineering, and generative AI document processing.
- Experience deploying and scaling containerized ML microservices on AWS EKS using Docker and Kubernetes, including GPU inference optimization.
- Knowledge of MLOps tools and practices such as MLflow and SageMaker Pipelines.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Healthcare industry expertise is preferred.
- Applied ML/AI experience in document processing, computer vision, or NLP is preferred.
