Base Salary
$178k - $228k/yr
Responsibilities
- Set the team’s technical strategy on a year-long horizon and connect it to business-impacting projects
- Build and maintain capacity models that translate traffic forecasts into resource and infrastructure capacity recommendations
- Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to manage technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs
- Define and advocate for technical solutions and operational processes that multiply team effectiveness
- Own team operations and availability through monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, and alerting
- Set code review and design standards and advocate for quality through writing and technical talks
- Develop team talent through feedback, guidance, and technical leadership
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages such as Python or Kotlin
- Extensive experience developing highly available distributed systems with technologies such as AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes
- Experience supporting the scaling of large sales events such as Prime Day or Black Friday Cyber Monday
- Experience tuning autoscaling, CPU and memory utilization, and multithreading for compute workloads
- Experience delivering major features or system components, or deprecating existing functionality, through technical and execution plans
- Ability to work from low-level language idioms through large-system architecture
- Demonstrated growth through gathering and iterating on feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
