Responsibilities
- Define SLOs, SLIs, error-budget policies, instrumentation standards, and reliability improvement roadmaps for Tier-1 services.
- Design and operate incident command, severity management, war rooms, postmortems, stakeholder communications, and on-call rotations.
- Select and establish the primary observability platform while integrating existing tooling and contracts.
- Instrument services, build dashboards and alerts, write runbooks, contribute infrastructure as code, and oversee CI/CD pipeline evolution.
- Administer and scale secure, compliant Kubernetes platforms and run chaos engineering and failover exercises.
- Command Sev-1 and Sev-2 incidents, lead blameless postmortems, and drive remediation work to completion.
- Architect and evaluate AIOps capabilities including anomaly detection, predictive alerting, automated root-cause analysis, and LLM-assisted triage or runbooks.
- Coach an Engineer III SRE, design future SRE roles and interview loops, and represent SRE in architecture, launch-readiness, and executive reviews.
- Partner with Security, Compliance, Architecture, Product Engineering, Support, and managed service providers on reliability and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of experience in software or platform engineering, including at least 4 years in SRE, DevOps, or platform reliability roles.
- At least 2 years of formal technical leadership, tech-lead, or staff-level experience with mentorship responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience building an SRE, DevOps, or platform reliability practice from zero or near-zero, including SLOs, incident command, and error budgets.
- Deep hands-on expertise with AWS, Azure, or GCP, including networking, IAM, and managed services.
- Strong experience designing and managing CI/CD pipelines and implementing infrastructure as code with Terraform, Chef, Puppet, or similar tools.
- Proficiency in Python or another object-oriented programming language for automation, tooling, and production services.
- Experience administering and scaling Kubernetes clusters and working with Docker, Helm, and service mesh technologies such as Istio or Linkerd.
- Hands-on experience designing observability platforms with tools such as DataDog, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Elasticsearch, or Kibana.
- Incident command experience for customer-impacting Sev-1 events and experience with blameless postmortems and follow-up discipline.
- Experience coaching and mentoring junior or mid-level engineers and influencing senior technical or operations leaders with data-driven recommendations.
- Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree, healthcare or regulated-industry experience, MSP integration, hybrid hardware-cloud experience, AIOps implementation, large language model APIs or agentic AI frameworks, stateful Kubernetes services, security scanning, intrusion detection, Kafka, RabbitMQ, chaos engineering, Databricks, Team Foundation Server, Octopus Deploy, and FinOps.
