- Diagnose and eliminate classes of failures occurring across the fleet under real production load.
- Define service boundaries, document designs, and move code across service boundaries.
- Build tooling and test infrastructure that improve engineering velocity.
- Evolve service deployment and operations as the quantum-computing fleet grows.
- Raise engineering standards through hands-on implementation and code reviews.

- Deep systems engineering experience and a record of operating production services where data loss is unacceptable.
- Expert systems engineering skills, with solid Rust experience or deep proficiency in another systems language and willingness to work in Rust, including asynchronous programming.
- Experience building and operating stateful networked services exposed over gRPC or REST, including error handling, observability, and failure-mode analysis.
- Experience with persistence design, crash recovery, live-data migrations, data durability, and correctness; the team uses PostgreSQL.
- Experience diagnosing difficult production failures and addressing timing or interleaving bugs through deterministic approaches.
- Experience with scheduling and workflow systems such as Temporal, Hatchet, Airflow, Slurm, or PostgreSQL-backed queues.
- Strong written design skills and excellent communication across software and other disciplines.
- Useful additional experience includes replacing load-bearing systems in service, production containerized services, Kubernetes, declarative deployment, distributed tracing, formal specification or model checking, closed-loop systems, and scientific computing or research facilities.
