Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable backend services, APIs, and distributed systems.
- Define, evolve, and maintain GraphQL schemas for consumer-facing web and mobile experiences.
- Design and operate resilient data flows across Kafka or similar event streams, queues, and synchronous service APIs.
- Own services through production operations, including on-call participation, monitoring, incident response, and reliability improvements.
- Collaborate with Product, UX, data, infrastructure, and engineering teams on service contracts and technical trade-offs.
- Write design documents and technical proposals, communicate decisions, and conduct rigorous code reviews.
- Champion testing strategies, targeted automation, maintainable engineering standards, and system quality.
- Build backend capabilities for photos, video, and immersive tours that improve customer engagement and product performance.
- Use AI development tools such as Cursor and Claude to accelerate design, implementation, testing, and debugging.
Requirements
- BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of experience building scalable backend services for consumer-facing products.
- Strong proficiency or experience with Go, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, and/or Java, with the ability to learn new technologies quickly.
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, event-driven architectures such as Kafka, Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform, and AWS or comparable cloud platforms.
- Experience designing reliable distributed systems and making trade-offs between speed and long-term durability.
- Strong ownership from design through production operations, including reliability, performance, and quality improvements.
- Ability to write clean maintainable code, conduct rigorous code reviews, and elevate engineering standards.
- Strong technical communication, documentation, collaboration, and customer focus.
- Curiosity and practical experience using modern AI-assisted development tools.
