Responsibilities
- Own architecture and technical outcomes for one or more Genius POS platforms while contributing to shared architecture convergence.
- Design payment flows and integrations covering card-present, card-not-present, semi-integrated payments, P2PE, tokenization, surcharge, and cash discount scenarios.
- Design APIs, contracts, adapters, and provider-agnostic integration patterns for loyalty, delivery, gift, payroll, fiscal, and other third-party providers.
- Contribute to a unified integration platform covering partner onboarding, API management, authentication, schema translation, and shared services.
- Design and contribute to chatbot orchestration, agentic workflows, operator-facing AI assistants, and RAG-backed analytics using MCP tooling.
- Own security, scalability, observability, compliance, and other non-functional requirements as part of architecture decisions.
- Participate in sprint ceremonies, roadmap planning, trade-off discussions, architecture forums, and technical governance.
- Document architectural decisions, represent the POS domain cross-functionally, and help less-senior engineers develop architectural judgment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 6 years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years in a solution architect, lead engineer, or principal engineer capacity.
- Demonstrated experience designing and shipping payment integrations, including gateway integrations, semi-integrated flows, tokenization, or PCI-scoped architectures.
- Hands-on experience building or operating cloud-native systems on AWS or Azure using microservices, event-driven architecture, and API design.
- Strong API design experience with OpenAPI and authentication and authorization patterns such as OAuth 2.0 and API key lifecycle management.
- Experience integrating third-party platforms and designing scalable adapters, service provider interfaces, and provider-agnostic contracts.
- Preferred experience with POS or commerce platforms, payment gateway ecosystems, unified integration platforms, API gateways, developer portals, and AI-enabled features.
- Familiarity with foundation-model APIs, prompt engineering, RAG patterns, agent frameworks, MCP tooling, and AI-assisted developer tooling is preferred.
- Experience across SMB, mid-market, and enterprise environments and understanding of their architectural trade-offs is preferred.
