Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain large-scale host infrastructure across ByteDance’s non-China data centers, including OS lifecycle management, configuration standardization, and fleet-wide health monitoring.
- Own the reliability and availability of foundational services including DNS, NTP, DHCP, NAT, APT repositories, and Kerberos authentication.
- Design and implement highly available, fault-tolerant, and disaster-recoverable deployment architectures across regions.
- Define and enforce SLOs, lead incident response and root cause analysis, and conduct post-mortem reviews.
- Collaborate with network, security, and application teams on infrastructure service requirements.
- Identify automation opportunities and improve tooling and processes to reduce operational toil.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related major.
- Solid experience managing large-scale Linux hosts, including OS deployment, configuration management, patching, and fleet operations.
- Hands-on knowledge of DNS, including BIND or PowerDNS, NTP, DHCP, NAT, APT repository management, and Kerberos.
- Proficiency with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Salt, or Puppet and CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with SRE practices including SLO/SLI definition, error budget management, and blameless post-mortems.
- Understanding of high-availability patterns, active-active and active-passive architectures, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across the Linux system stack and network layer.
- Preferred: experience managing production host fleets of thousands of nodes or more.
- Preferred: scripting or development experience in Python, Go, or Bash.
- Preferred: exposure to hybrid or multi-region data center environments.
