Responsibilities
- Optimize query performance, indexes, locks, memory, disk usage, and latency across row-oriented and columnar database engines.
- Maintain disaster recovery, RTO/RPO compliance, automated backup validation, point-in-time recovery, and data consistency.
- Manage compaction, partitioning, file sizing, storage tiering, and analytical storage infrastructure.
- Operate highly available production RDBMS clusters, including failover, replication, and zero-downtime maintenance.
- Maintain and scale ClickHouse, BigQuery, and Apache Iceberg systems.
- Build infrastructure automation for cluster provisioning, schema migrations, and metric alerting.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience running production database infrastructure with deep expertise in PostgreSQL or MySQL.
- Deep knowledge of ACID guarantees, WAL, checkpointing, recovery mechanics, concurrency control, transaction isolation, locking, MVCC, and database storage structures.
- Experience optimizing and managing Google Cloud BigQuery partitioning, clustering, quotas, and reservation slots.
- Experience with OLAP databases such as ClickHouse and BigQuery.
- Strong Linux fundamentals, including I/O subsystems, page cache, buffer pools, disk alignment, asynchronous I/O, and memory management.
- Experience using Python or Go to build database automation, operators, and CLI tooling.
- Experience with Terraform and container orchestration.
- Preferred qualifications include ClickHouse administration, Debezium or Kafka CDC pipelines, Apache Iceberg lakehouse management, schema migration tools such as gh-ost, Liquibase, or Bytebase, and familiarity with ClickHouse Keeper, Raft, or Paxos.
